Waters Remembered Totems

Waters Remembered Totem Series

$900.00 each

Tall, slender and richly layered, the Waters Remembered Totem Series brings together abstract surface, natural imagery and fragments of imagined history. Weathered fields of turquoise, rust, mineral white and soft gray are layered with faded script, map-like markings, compass forms and traces that suggest something discovered rather than newly made.

Select pieces incorporate a solitary heron or jackrabbit, emerging quietly from the layered surface. Others remain entirely abstract, allowing color, texture and fragmented markings to carry the narrative. Each totem is designed to stand beautifully on its own while also relating naturally to the others.

The Construction

Each totem is created on a professional-grade wood panel, providing a substantial, rigid surface for layers of acrylic, collage, texture, glazing, sanding and mark-making.

At 2.75 inches deep, the panels have a sculptural presence on the wall. The painted surface continues around the deep sides, allowing the work to be displayed without framing and giving each piece the feeling of an art object as much as a painting.

The Vision

The Waters Remembered Totem Series explores the intersection of nature, memory and time.

Turquoise suggests water, sky and oxidized surfaces, while warm rust and earth tones bring a sense of age and history. Beneath and within these color fields are fragments of maps, handwriting, numbers, compass markings and distressed textures—visual traces that feel as though they have accumulated over many years.

The heron and jackrabbit become quiet inhabitants of this imagined landscape rather than traditional wildlife subjects. Partially integrated into the surrounding surface, they appear almost like memories or drawings preserved within an old artifact.

Dimensions & Details

  • 5 × 60 × 2.75 inches — $900.00

  • Professional wood panel

  • Mixed media

  • Acrylic, collage, texture and layered mark-making

  • Extra-deep painted sides

  • Ready to hang

  • No framing required

Versatility in Curation

The unusual proportions make these pieces especially versatile for spaces where conventional artwork can be difficult to place.

Individually, a single totem can transform a narrow wall, column, entryway or architectural transition.

As a pair, two complementary pieces create a strong vertical conversation—whether pairing the heron and jackrabbit or two abstract compositions.

As a grouping, three or four totems become a larger installation, with alternating turquoise and rust creating rhythm across the wall.

Because every totem is a complete composition, collectors can begin with one piece and add additional works over time, creating a grouping unique to their space.
